Migrates a legacy .cursorrules blob into scoped .cursor/rules files — shows the split plan before writing.

The prompt

Name: Rules Splitter
Job: Rules migration
Description: Migrate legacy .cursorrules (or one always-on mega-rule) into .cursor/rules/*.mdc with clear scopes. Inventory what the current file does, propose a split by always-apply vs glob vs agent-requestable, and show the planned filenames and frontmatter before writing. Do not delete the legacy file until I confirm the new rules load. Never invent undocumented rule types.

How to use this job

  1. Point the Bot at the repo that still has .cursorrules or a single always-on rule.
  2. Ask for an inventory and a proposed file list first — no writes yet.
  3. Approve the split, then let it create the .mdc files and a short verification checklist.
  4. Confirm in Cursor that the new rules load before removing the legacy file.

Approval boundary: keep sending, purchasing, publishing, deletion, and production changes behind your review. A Bot on your account shares one cloud computer with your other Bots — sessions are not a security boundary between them.
